Shriners of Brockville in the Community
During this COVID-19 Pandemic, the Brockville & District Shrine Club has continued with its work of community development and benevolence. As Gary Tristram, Past Potentate of Tunis Shriners and the current President and Jack Butt, also a Past Potentate of Tunis and a Vice-President told the Chamber “these initiatives are some of the ways we can give back to our community and stay connected with our membership……we have been a presence in this community for almost100 years, this community has been very gracious and now it’s our turn.” They also indicated that in 2022 there will be a celebration of their 100 year anniversary. Stay tuned folks!
- This year saw the initiation of the Joe Maggio Award for a graduating High School Student based on values of exemplary work ethic, desire to learn, embrace excellence in a trade, and demonstrating solid character attributes like timeliness, willingness to improve with continued interest in ongoing learning as well as a positive attitude.
- We have also developed a “Thank You” card program where selected individuals that are making a difference during these difficult times are sent a special thank you! This outreach is having a positive impact on our community and has exceeded our expectations.
- In the final stages of development is our Infant car seat program. In Canada, babies and children in vehicles must be properly secured with the right kind of seat. Child car seats and booster seats can greatly reduce the risk of injury or death in a crash. Keeping your child safe in the car can feel very overwhelming for parents, especially when obtaining a car seat is not easily accessible due to financial strain. A partnership has been created between the Brockville & District Shrine Club, the Leeds, Grenville & Lanark District Health Unit, CTC and the 1000 Islands Toyota to help make car seats more accessible to families in need. We are working together to help fill the gap!
- Another exciting initiative is our gift card program. To date, we have distributed over $2000 in cards to front-line staff who are keeping our community safe while risking their own lives.
